IBM Systems Magazine, Mainframe - July/August 2014 - 47

across all workloads running on
the affected sysplex.

Active/Query
Configuration
An active/query configuration
consists of an active workload
instance executing on a sysplex
in one region, a standby
workload instance executing
on the other sysplex in another
region, and an associated query
workload instance executing
on each sysplex in each region.
The associated query workload
instances operate against
the data objects updated by
the active workload instance
and replicated to the standby
workload instance.
In Figure 5 (page 46), the active
workload A instance is executing
on the sysplex in region 2, the
standby workload A instance
is executing on the sysplex in
region 1, and query workload
B instances are executing on
both sysplexes in regions 1
and 2. Update transactions are
routed to the active workload A
instance and replicated to the
standby workload A instance.
Query transactions are routed to
the associated query workload
B instances based on software
replication latency. Steady state
query transactions will be skewed
to the query workload B instance
in region 1. However, they will
be directed to query workload B
instance in region 2 as latency
increases and directed back to
the query workload B instance
in region 1 as data latency
decreases.

Solution Helps
With Outages
The A/A Sites solution will largely
eliminate planned outages and
mitigate the impact of unplanned
outages. When planned outages
are needed for workload instances,

sysplex, or site maintenance,
GDPS/A-A can perform planned
workload or region switches within
seconds, thereby eliminating
the application outage. When
an unplanned outage impacts a

workload instance, sysplex,
or site, GDPS/A-A will perform
an unplanned workload or
region switch within seconds,
thereby mitigating the
unplanned outage.

AGENDA: Mobile is not only one of the most exciting trends
affecting IT today, but a transformative one. Indeed, most companies
already have some type of a mobile strategy. However, in order to
take it to the next level and offer five-star apps, it's critical to integrate
mobile applications with business-critical back-end data sources.
Join us as we discuss some of the major challenges presented
by this mobile era and how to address them, including:
s "UILDING TRANSFORMATIONAL APPS DESPITE FRAGMENTATION OF
devices and platforms
s 3PEED AND FREQUENT ITERATION OF THE MOBILE LIFECYCLE
and continuous delivery
s #ONNECTIVITY TO AND OPTIMIZATION OF BACK
END SYSTEMS
and enterprise clouds
s $EPLOYING HIGH
QUALITY APPS AND RAPIDLY INCORPORATING
customer feedback
/UR SPEAKERS WILL SHARE A UNIQUE )"- SOLUTION THAT COMBINES
end-to-end application lifecycle management with both mobile
and mainframe development features - all integrated in one package.
