Getting it into the hands of decision-makers at points of customer interaction is crucial to competitive advantage. Business analytics has moved beyond being an initiative. Today, it’s a business imperative, demanding a new approach beyond reports and dashboards, and embedding real-time data into the very fabric of operations. This requires tight integration between transactional, data warehousing and business-analytics solutions to build a modern information hub supporting real-time, enterprisewide decisions. The IBM zEnterprise* System and related analytics tools address this challenge—without requiring an infrastructure redesign. WebSphere* Application Server and SAP with DB2* on z/OS*, come with specific requirements, such as high-volume update activity, stringent service-level agreements (SLAs), high availability, security and overall system integrity. Commonly, they contain vast amounts of information of great interest to the company’s lines of business. Analytics is the process of deriving value from this online data and from a wealth of external data. A typical first step in the analytics process involves producing reports about what happened—was it what we wanted, and how should we change it?
