By Joe Clabby and Brad Day ILLUSTRATION BY JURGEN ZIEWE ver the course of two years, IBM’s Institute for Business Value and MIT’s Sloan Management Review jointly conducted a global survey of thousands of executive managers and analysts, and produced two reports detailing the latest developments in business analytics. The first report, “Analytics: The New Path to Value,” establishes that senior business leaders worldwide have concerns about whether they’re maximizing the value of the information their enterprises have captured. These leaders recognize that, for too long, information systems have been geared to provide a rearview-mirror vision of performance; looking backwards to tell them what happened and why. But what those leaders want is a future view filled with insights that can spur growth through improved operational efficiency and better customer service. Ultimately, they want to use those insights obtained through analytics to drive innovation.
