Editor’s Desk Inside this month’s issue CONTRIBUTORS Greg Lotko Sea boat captain Greg Lotko, one of the IBM VPs interviewed on page 38, earned his ferryboat captain license at 18 and retains a U.S. Coast Guard operator’s license for vessels up to 100 tons. Perhaps one day he’ll follow in the footsteps of his 78-year-old father, who still captains ferryboat runs on Long Island each summer. Optimistic, for Good Reason aybe I’m just a glass-half-full person, but it seems there’s always something to celebrate. Last year the IBM mainframe marked 45 years, then Linux* on System z* celebrated a decade on the platform. This year, IBM is celebrating 100 years as a company. A video IBM created to commemorate the milestone, “They Were There,” ( XrhDaAmn5Uw) features an interview with System/360 pioneer Fred Brooks. True to IBM’s mission to innovate, the system is much different from the computer Brooks first worked on.
