IT Today
System z platform highly desirable for data warehousing and business analytics. With WebFOCUS for IBM System z Data Warehousing, businesses can align the platform’s advantages with the requirements of the business application. Building your data warehouse on IBM System z is the best way to consolidate and organize all of your data so it can be easily managed, accessed and analyzed. WebFOCUS for IBM System z Data Warehousing is a single-environment solution, providing a comprehensive and fully integrated suite of data-warehousing and BI software products. It combines the power, f lexibility and reliability of IBM’s System z Solution Edition for Data Warehousing with native z/OS* technology-based, easy-to-use tools that deliver data warehousing and BI with dramatically reduced implementation complexity and TCO, as compared to similar distributed systems or dual operating-environment approaches. Two components comprise the solution—DB2* Data Loader and DB2 Data Reporter.
Data Loader for DB2 offers the capability

Solution Edition Available
The WebFOCUS Framework for Data Warehousing is a completely integrated software solution deployed using a common server architecture and implementation tools. When combined with IBM’s System z* Solution Edition for Data Warehousing, it forms a complete and unified hardware and software solution for implementing enterprise data warehousing. This package includes IBI Data Loader for ETL processing and Data Reporter for querying capabilities.

Data Reporter for DB2 provides:

it to keep costs contained, while also mitigating risk of failure. Implementing WebFOCUS for IBM System z Data Warehousing, IT departments may find significant benefits in having fewer specialized resources to manage the System z platform. Companies can reduce the number of IT personnel who only “keep the lights on” and redeploy the most skilled of them to respond to business needs for data assets. IBM’s continuous investment into System z solutions and specialty engines like the IFL, zIIP, and System z Application Assist Processor (zAAP), enhance performance and render data warehouses dynamic and scalable. Offloading processes to a zIIP improves the overall performance and response time, which allows the system to scale to larger volumes and manage a mixed workload. It also helps reduce expenses. You can transfer up to 80 percent of a system’s processing to the zIIP chip. The processing cost on a mainframe is always measured in the amount of MIPS used. With the zIIP, the workload transferred to the chip isn’t counted in the size of the computer or the cost of processing; in other words, it’s free. Information Builders, IBM’s partner in the WebFOCUS for IBM System z Data Warehousing solution, is one of the only companies in the world making software that intelligently switches processing between the general processor chip and the zIIP chip in a z/OS environment. Think of this chip as a BI accelerator; if you deploy a large customer-facing analytics application from your System z data warehouse with real-time data from the mainframe, you can do more with what you have.

hÁGraphically rich, fully integrated,
and easy-to-use design tools for developing medium to very large-scale BI applications

hÁEnd-user, guided ad-hoc query
capabilities that support any amount of Web-based usage

hÁShared server capabilities, which
enable BI applications/users and IT to utilize a common server architecture for data access, manipulation, metadata creation/utilization and data federation within z/OS The scalable, reliable and f lexible ser ver architecture with IBM System z technology—such as the IBM System z9* Integrated Information Processor (zIIP) specialty engine—dramatically lowers the operational costs of using a DB2 software-based data warehouse.

to:

hÁLoad/synchronize a DB2 softwarebased enterprise data warehouse through comprehensive access to more than 200 database, file and application sources

Optional service-based components for data cleansing and data quality management are available. The WebFOCUS Framework for Data Warehousing uses a dedicated System z LPAR or standalone System z server to deliver a simple approach to the design, implementation, and management of a data warehousing solution—all at a lower acquisition cost and overall TCO compared to similar multi-tier or distributed-environment solutions.

hÁFinely tune metadata creation and
management capabilities

hÁUse common metadata introspection, modeling and generation techniques, regardless of information resource, type or location

hÁOptimize DB2 data-load capabilities on a real-time, near real-time or batch basis

hÁFederate data in a highly sophisticated manner with drill-through capabilities that provide access to detailed operational data via a DB2 warehouse

Rein in Costs
The mandate from management is information now, but keep a close eye on cost. IT departments must make the IT architecture less complex with less hardware and fewer resources behind

hÁModel, implement, manage and
audit warehouse loading
