Administrator f low from the UPS to the PDUs and then to the associated resources (see Figure 1, below). Monitoring You can monitor the metered data from two points of view when using external devices for data metering. Once you configure a metering device, you can monitor the data from the point of view of the metered resource or from the point of view of the metering device itself. Each approach presents the data in a slightly different way. done at the outlet level, trending on an outlet isn’t supported; however, if an outlet group only has one outlet or there’s only one resource plugged into an outlet of the outlet group, trending the outlet group is the same as trending the outlet itself. As mentioned previously, if a single resource is associated with multiple outlet groups, trending the metered resource Figure 1 Monitoring the Metered Resource Trend Data is the AEM feature provided for monitoring power and environmental data. To access it, navigate to the resource to monitor, right-click and choose Energy>Trend Data. All metered data for the selected resource is shown in t wo charts (see Figure 2, right). The top chart shows power information. The bottom chart shows environmental data and CPU utilization information. You can also view the trend data in a table format, or export the data to a spreadsheet file using the toolbar buttons at the top of the charts. If the resource supports direct metering, both the data retrieved from metering the resource itself and the data retrieved from any associated external metering devices is shown in the trend data charts. Externally metered data is labeled as such to distinguish it from the data retrieved from directly metering the resource. As mentioned previously, a resource can be associated with multiple outlet groups. In this case, the metered data for all associated outlet groups is aggregated to determine the average input power (externally metered). The same behavior is used if multiple power sensors are associated with a single resource. If a resource has multiple environmental sensor associations of the same type (e.g., multiple temperature-sensor associations) only data metered from one sensor of each type is shown in the trend data chart. The value isn’t an aggregate or an average. To see the values metered by the individual sensors, you can view the trend data for the sensors themselves. Figure 2 Figure 3 Monitoring the Metering Device Trend Data is also supported for metering devices and for the outlet groups and sensors they contain. The monitored data corresponds to the physical reality of what’s plugged into the PDU and what the sensor detects. If you invoke Trend Data for a PDU, the average output power shown is the aggregate of all of the power that resources plugged into the PDU have consumed. Once again, this is regardless of any configured associations. If you want to see how much power a single outlet group is drawing, you can invoke Trend Data for the outlet group.
