IBM Systems Magazine, Mainframe digital edition - July/August 2009 - (Page 44) Technical Corner z/OS V1.9 will run System z10* Enterprise Class, System z10 Business Class, System z9* Enterprise Class, System z9 Business Class, as well as all System z (z990, z890, z900 or z800) OSs. See the IBM Coupling Facility Level (CFLEVEL) considerations site for additional requirements. 3. There’s no longer System z file system (zFS) multi-file aggregate support, but zFS compatibility-mode aggregates are still supported. 4. The base element Firewall Technologies have been removed. I PSec u r it y replaces I ntegrated Sec u r it y Services. FTP Proxy Services, SOCKS V4, Network Address Translation and RealAudio haven’t been replaced. 5. TCP/IP, z/OS UNIX*, Language Environment, ISPF, Resource Management Facility (RMF) and msys for Setup Sysplex plug-ins are no longer available. 6. msys for Operations is eliminated. I BM plans on providing a new, equivalent function in a future release. o$DHK./ 1. In-stack TN3270 (Telnet function within the TCP/IP address space) has been removed; use the TN3270 Server. 2. A PPC communication between Host Conf iguration Manager and Host Conf igu rat ion Def init ion has been eliminated. You can now use TCP/IP. 3. SNA/IP has replaced the base element APPC Application Suite. 4. C/C++ IBM Open Class run-time support is removed, and the Standard C/C++ Library has replaced it. Impact of Withdrawn Elements or Features If you’re using z/OS elements or features that are removed from the new release, finding alternatives is difficult. These become migration tasks you can perform well before a z/OS migration. Here’s a list of items that apply to a z/OS V1.9 migration: o$DHK-/ 1. Support for one-byte console IDs is removed. Thoroughly review and eliminate use of this facility. 2. The Communications Server no longer includes AnyNet, TCP/IP configuration profile block definitions, the SNMP ser vice-level agreement (SLA) (pagtsnmp) subagent, and Enterprise Extender (EE) Transmission Groups (TGs) using multiple systems, applications and process (SAP) addresses. EE can replace AnyNet; the network SLA PM2 (nslapm2) subagent replaces the pagtsnp subagent, and vir tual IP adapters can replace EE TGs. Product Availability, Service, Cost and Compatibility Table 1 (below) summarizes availability and service/support dates for several z/OS* system releases. Availability is the date when a version/release of z/OS can first be ordered. Withdrawn from marketing is the date after which z/OS can no longer be ordered via no-charge ServerPac or CBPDO. End of service is the date after which IBM no longer provides non-billable z/OS defect support. You must pursue special ordering procedures for any z/OS release below unless you already have it. IBM may offer a withdrawn release via a service offering called SystemPac. s .ORMAL Z/3 6# SUPPORT HAS EXPIRED (OWEVER )"OFFERS A FEEBASED )"- ,IFECYCLE %XTENSION FOR Z/3 6# ÈPRODUCT NUMBER !"#!É WHICH EXTENDS SUPPORT FOR THIS RELEASE UP TO AN ADDITIONAL TWO YEARS UNTIL 3EPT s !
